Salvador Dalí Auction Highlights

Salvador Dalí and Paul Delvaux: European Masters of Surrealism | Wednesday 11 June 2025

On Wednesday 11th June, we have our auction of Salvador Dalí and Paul Delvaux: European Masters of Surrealism. Salvador Dalí’s work is defined by a vivid and often unsettling dreamlike quality, rooted in his deep association with the Surrealist movement. He created scenes that defy rational understanding, filled with bizarre juxtapositions, symbolic imagery, and hallucinatory landscapes. Dalí was fascinated by the irrational and the subconscious, and his art reflects a deliberate effort to escape conventional logic and instead explore the depths of the human psyche.

Despite the fantastical content of his imagery, Dalí employed an extraordinarily meticulous, almost photographic painting technique. He mastered classical methods of perspective, shadow, and anatomy, which he used to create surreal visions with unnerving realism. This hyper-realistic detail made his dreamlike scenes all the more compelling, as they appeared believable while clearly existing outside the bounds of reality.

Dalí’s compositions were often flamboyant and theatrical, reflecting his larger-than-life personality. He frequently manipulated perspective, scale, and depth to create dramatic and disorienting spaces. Vast, barren landscapes served as stages for his peculiar dramas, populated by distorted figures, fantastical creatures, and uncanny architectural forms. His visual storytelling is both enigmatic and hypnotic.
