Domenichino.- Cunego (Domenico) [Scenes from the Life of the Virgin, after frescos in the Capella Nolfi, Duomo of Fano], 13 plates only (of 16), engravings on thick Fabriano laid paper, several with text-based watermark and encircled fleur-de-lis, 11 sheets approx. 790 x 550 mm (31 1/8 x 21 3/4 in), and two smaller at 680 x 510 mm (26 3/4 x 20 in), all with full margins and deckled edges, one with perforation and loss in lower margin, otherwise scattered spotting, browning and surface dirt, with handling and drying creases, early 19th century brown wrappers, worn with nicks and tears, some repaired, oblong folio, [circa 1780]; bound with two further engravings after Domenichino by Cunego [1780]
⁂ The sixteen scenes in Domenichino's cycle painted in the Nolfi family chapel were ruined by fire and unsuccessful restoration, they are now in 'extremely poor condition, many irreparably and weakly overpainted' [Richard Spear, Domenichino, 1982, p. 204].
