Powell (Anthony) Caledonia. A Fragment, first edition, presentation copy signed by the author and with several autograph corrections to text, full-page illustration by Edward Burra, hinges reinforced with tape, original cloth-backed tartan paper boards, printed paper label to upper cover, rubbed, tear to lower board, 8vo, Privately Printed, 1934.
⁂ Inscribed to Dorothy Varda "For Varda from Tony, March 14th 1935". There are five corrections to the text in Powell's hand. Only 100 copies of this, Powell's fourth book, were printed and the author distributed them privately both at the time and for many years afterwards. In Messengers of Day Powell describes Varda (as she was known) as "both a beauty, and a personality not to be disregarded. Her taste for strife caused trouble in the lives of a lot of men, several women, at one time or another, but, when in good form, no one could be wittier, or show greater appreciation of wit in others."
