Quakerism.- Gurney (Joseph John) Sabbatical Verses, signed presentation inscription from the author "Jane Backhouse | with J.J. Gurney's dear love | 6 mo/8. 1837" to title, original boards with printed paper label to upper cover, unopened, spine worn with loss, 1837 § Barton (Bernard) Napoleon, and Other Poems, lacking front free endpaper, bookplate of John Sparrow, original boards, some light damp-staining, joints splitting at head and foot, spine a little chipped with loss, uncut, 1822, 8vo (2)

⁂ John Joseph Gurney (1788-1847) banker and Quaker minister; his preaching in the USA in the 1840s against John Wilbur on the fundamentals of Quaker worship fomented perhaps the most profound schism in Quakerism.

Bernard Barton (1784-1849) "The Quaker Poet".
