⁂ Crystal Palace was built in 1851 to house the Great Exhibition and was three times the size of St.Paul's Cathedral. After the exhibition it was moved to Sydenham and in 1911 housed the Festival of Empire, but the building fell into disrepair and it was sold to Lord Plymouth for £210,000 before being destroyed by fire in 1936.
