Through Persia in Disguise with Reminiscences of the Indian Mutiny, first edition, half-title, portrait frontispiece and 16 plates, 2 colour, 3 folding maps and plans, illustrations, original crimson cloth, t.e.g., an excellent copy, preserved in modern cloth slip-case, 8vo, London & New York, 1911.

⁂ Interesting Great Game item. In 1880-81 the author spent some time in Deregez disguised as an Armenian horse-dealer from Calcutta on his way to buy horses in Khorasan, as a pretext for observing the Russians who were believed to be preparing an army to march on Merv.
