Description

Passeri (Giambattista) Vite de' Pittori Scultori ed Architetti che anno lavorato in Roma morti dal 1641 fino al 1673, first edition, engraved title printed in red and black with vignette of bust of Homer and decorative border by Carloni, woodcut pictorial initials and decorations, title a little spotted, some light foxing or soiling, 3G2 & 3 stained and frayed at upper edge, a few leaves with short tears to lower edge, contemporary vellum, spine titled in gilt, a little rubbed and stained, corners worn, short split to foot of upper joint, folio, Rome, Gregorio Settari, 1772.

⁂ A continuation of Baglione's Le Vite de' Pittori of 1642 (see lot 9), concerning 17th century artists working in Rome up to 1673 and including Guido Reni, Nicolas Poussin and Salvator Rosa.
