⁂John Towneley (1731-1813), book collector of Towneley Hall, Burnley, Lancs., heir and uncle to Charles Towneley the collector of antiquities. His library included the manuscripts of the "Towneley Cycle" or Wakefield Mystery Plays and the "Towneley Homer", both of which were sold in the first portion of the sale of his library in 1814.
