Ray (John) Travels through the Low-Countries, Germany, Italy and France...also a Catalogue of Plants, 2 vol., second edition, half-titles and titles in red and black, 3 engraved plates, 2 folding, ex-Horticultural Society of New York library copy (Mackenzie bequest) with label on front pastedown, light marginal stain to E6-8 of vol.1 but otherwise a very clean copy in contemporary calf, rubbed, corners a little worn, rebacked, [Keynes 22 & 22a; cf. Blackmer 1397], 8vo, for J.Walthoe [& others], 1738.
⁂ Volume 2 is titled "A Collection of Curious Travels and Voyages. Containing, Dr. Leonhart Rauwolf's Journey into...Syria, Palestine, or the Holy Land, Armenia, Mesopotamia, Assyria, Chaldea, &c...to which are added three Catalogues of such Trees, Shrubs, and Herbs, as grow in the Levant." This is indeed the second edition of the travels through the Low Countries but according to Keynes the third of the collection of travels, of which Ray was the editor. His only original contribution was the catalogue of plants (omitted from the second edition of the collection of travels) which was clearly the part of the book that was nearest to his heart and is, again, given a separate title-page with its own pagination.
