[Bromley (William)] Remarks in the Grande Tour of France & Italy. Lately Perfomed by a Person of Quality, first edition, half-title, errata slip pasted to verso of title (?from 1693 edition) and neat corrections to text in ink, with the final blank, pencil notes to rear endpaper, old ink inscriptions to front pastedown and engraved bookplate of William Bromley of Baginton, contemporary calf, rubbed, corners worn, upper joint and head of spine repaired, [Wing B4889], 8vo, by E.H. for Tho. Basset, 1692.
⁂ Sir William Bromley (1663-1732), of Baginton, Warks, was a Tory politician and Speaker of the House of Commons from 1710-1713. Following the death of his first wife Bromley travelled through Italy, thereby avoiding the Glorious Revolution of 1688, and later produced this scarce account of his tour. This copy presumably belonged to his son, William Throckmorton Bromley (c.1726-69), also of Baginton. ESTC lists only British Library, Oxford and Brotherton Library, Leeds.
