A Novel, 2 vol., first edition, without half-titles or advertisments, title pages torn and laid down with loss first words of title in vol. 1 and partial loss of imprint in vol.2, vol. 1 final f. margins trimmed with loss to final line of text, vol. 2 final leaf torn and repaired with loss to several words, browning and soiling, floral endpapers, 19th century patterned cloth-covered boards, some fraying to spine ends and corners, [ESTC N15184; Garsside, Raven & Schowerling 1787:2], 8vo, for W. Lane, 1787.
⁂ A rare anonymous novel, likely written by a woman. Blenheim Lodge is cited as having one of the earliest printed references to "high tea" (vol. 2 p.13) and intriguingly features three prominent characters that share surnames with Austen heroines: Dashwood, Vernon and Elliott. ESTC lists copies in the Bodleian, Houghton and Princeton Libraries, Library Hub adds the Wellcome Library. The BL has the Dublin edition only.
