Description

Blome (Richard) The Gentlemans Recreation, 2 parts in 1, first edition, initial Approbation leaf, engraved frontispiece, title printed in red and black, 85 engraved plates including 10 of coats-of-arms of the subscribers and one engraved on both sides, woodcut illustrations, first few ff. somewhat frayed at lower outer corner, inscription "Seager Mary Hickes Borne of 20th of June 1702" to verso of plate at E2, few other ink annotations or scribbles including to one coats-of-arms plate, N2 small hole affecting few letters, part 2 H1 tear within text & 3P1 small tear affecting couple letters, one plate trimmed within image at fore-edge, the odd small marginal defect or short tear, longer tears into plates a few times but no image loss, occasional light browning, some damp- and other staining, some marginal worming, generally very small, contemporary panelled calf, rebacked and recornered, preserving much of gilt backstrip, old covers and backstrip rather worn, new endpapers, [Schwerdt I, p.72; Westwood & Satchell p.351; Wing B3213], folio, S. Roycroft, for Richard Blome, 1686.
