Description

Ravilious (Eric).- Kynoch Press Note Book 1933, printed in red & black, wood-engraved decorative title in red and illustrations by Eric Ravilious, original buff cloth printed in red with illustration to upper cover, a little rubbed and lightly soiled, covers slightly splayed, 1932; Specimens of Types in use at The Kynoch Press, with Supplements 1-3 tipped in at end, wood-engraved illustrations by Ravilious, book-label of R.S.Hutchings, original cloth, upper cover blind-stamped with alphabet, slight wear to spine ends, 1934, 8vo, Birmingham, Kynoch Press (2)

⁂ The Kynoch Press was the in-house press for the company which became Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in 1929. As well as all the company printing it executed independent fine printing, particularly under the aegis of Herbert Simon from 1922-33 when it commissioned several notable artists. The type specimen book includes an alphabet designed by Ravilious (p.150) and ornaments by his wife Tirzah Garwood (p.155).
