Ravilious (Eric).- Marlowe (Christopher) The Famous Tragedy of the rich Jew of Malta, number 34 of 250 copies, 4 full-page wood-engraved plates by Eric Ravilious, engraved bookplate by John Raymond Danson, contemporary half russet morocco over marbled cloth, t.e.g., others uncut, spine slightly faded, 4to, Golden Hours Press, 1933.

⁂ The first and preferred binding. The Golden Hours Press was founded in 1932 by Christopher Sandford and Francis Newbery who then, with Owen Rutter, bought the Golden Cockerel Press from Robert Gibbings in 1933. Unsold copies of the Golden Hours books were remaindered and reissued by Hollis and Carter Ltd. in cheaper cloth bindings (see following lot).
