The Golden Hours Press was founded in 1932 by Christopher Sandford and Francis Newbery who then, with Owen Rutter, bought the Golden Cockerel Press from Robert Gibbings in 1933. Unsold copies of the Golden Hours books were remaindered and reissued by Hollis and Carter Ltd. in cheaper cloth bindings (see following lot).
