⁂ Philippe Desplaces, astronomer at the Paris observatory, produced the Paris ephemerides for 1715 to 1744 from La Hire's tables. They were published in three volumes between 1716 and 1734, of which the volume here is the first. La Caille's volume of ephemerides follows on from those of Desplaces (hence being described as vol.4 on title and spine). He also published two more, for 1755-1764 and 1765-1744.
