Schott (Gaspar) Technica curiosa, sive mirabilia artis..., first edition, half-title, additional engraved allegorical title, title in red & black with engraved portrait of the dedicatee to verso, engraved coat-of-arms, 61 engraved plates on 59 sheets, some folding, woodcut illustrations and diagrams, with advertisement leaf at end, half-title soiled, some browning, a few plates with short tears, near contemporary calf, spine gilt, lacking upper cover, [Duveen p.537], Wurzburg, Johann Jobst Hertz, Johann Andreas Endter & Wolfgang Endter, 1664; Mechanica hydraulico-pneumatica..., first edition, with instruction to binder leaf at beginning, half-title, additional engraved pictorial title of fountain (folding at fore-edge), title with woodcut coat-of-arms to verso, 46 engraved plates, woodcut illustrations, some soiling and browning, engraved title creased and torn at inner margin, 2 plates repaired at fold, eighteenth century speckled calf, spine gilt, rubbed, joints split, spine ends worn, Wurzburg, Heinrich Pigrin for the heirs of Johann Schonwetter, 1657, 4to (2)

⁂ The first work "contains descriptions of the aerostatic experiments of Guericke and Boyle, perpetual motion machines, diving bell, chronometer, barometer etc. etc." (Duveen). The number of plates varies from copy to copy. In the second work Schott includes the first published account of Guericke's experiments with the vacuum pump. Guericke did not publish his own account until 1672.
