Egyptology.- Caussin (Nicolas) De symbolica Aegyptiorum sapientia [&] Polyhistor symbolicus..., 2 parts in 1, first edition, engraved additional allegorical title, first title in red & black, both with woodcut devices, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initials, text in Greek & Latin, the first with blank 2D4 & **4, both with errata at end, a few rust or ink spots, X4 of the second with small hole and loss of a couple of letters, very slight water-staining to last few leaves, contemporary sprinkled calf, spine gilt, rubbed, upper joint split, spine worn at head, lacking label, [Caillet 2103; Landwehr, Romanic 216], Paris, Romain de Beauvais, 1618.

⁂ Scarce first edition of the most extensive collection of texts on hieroglyphics & symbols at the time. Included are relevant texts by Horapollo, Epiphanius, and Clemens Alexandrinus.
