Budé (Guillaume) Lexicon graeco-latinum, seu thesaurus linguae graecae, title with woodcut printer's device and another to final leaf, woodcut initials, with 'Farrago libellorum...' bound at end, title with neat contemporary ink inscription and a little soiled, some light browning or marginal water-staining, first and last few leaves slightly nibbled at fore-edge, seventeenth century calf with central gilt arms of Charles Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax, spine gilt with red morocco label, rubbed, spine ends and corners a little worn, Geneva, Jean Crespin & Nicolas Barbier, 1554 § Scapula (Johann) Lexicon graeco-latinum, title in red and black with woodcut printer's device, woodcut initials and ornaments, double column, title with neat near contemporary ink inscription "Tobias Reimers...1689", light water-staining to a few margins, contemporary vellum, yapp edges, spine titled in manuscript, rubbed & soiled, Amsterdam, J.Blaeu & L.Elzevier, 1652; and another, similar, folio (3)

⁂ Charles Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax (1661-1715), politician and poet, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1694 to 1699 and First Lord of the Treasury from 1714 until his death the following year. He was also president of the Royal Society and a patron of Sir Isaac Newton.
