Description

Reliquary.- Reliquary of Blessed James Philip Bertoni, OSM, a fragment of bone centrally placed within a decorative arrangement of gold ?fabric pieces recalling the sun above a label in red and black decoratively cut, sealed at the rear with parchment, red thread and unidentifiable red wax seal (unbroken), contained within a glass-fronted metal medallion (theoretically detachable in two parts but sealed by the thread), c.62 x 50mm., [?19th century]

⁂ Blessed James Philip (1454-83) was born within the diocese of Faenza (Italy) and dedicated from a young age to the Servites, or 'Order of Servants of Mary'. Ordained as a priest as an adult, he was renowned for his personal piety and love of the Scriptures, Fathers of the Church an the liturgy. He is buried in the Cathedral at Faenza, and Pope Clement XIII approved devotion to him in 1761.
