Bewick (Thomas).- Relph (Rev. Josiah, of Sebergham) Poems..., second edition (first illustrated edition), wood-engraved title-vignette and illustrations by Thomas Bewick, very lightly offset, contemporary ink signature and engraved bookplate of Thos. Davidson of Newcastle, contemporary tree calf with gilt interlacing border surrounding acid-etched panel of a weeping woman at a tomb to both covers, a little rubbed, rebacked preserving old gilt spine with red morocco label and gilt-tooled onlays, by Bernard Middleton (signed and dated 2004 in pencil at foot of rear free endpaper), [Tattersfield TB 2.489], 8vo, Carlisle, J. Mitchell, 1798.
⁂ An interesting binding using an unusual technique. It is generally believed that acid was painted directly onto the leather but in this case one can clearly see that a copper plate has been impressed onto the covers.
