Aesop. Select Fables of Esop and other Fabulists, first Baskerville edition, engraved frontispiece, vignettes and 14 plates only (of 15, lacking plate at p.166), by Grignion after S.Wale, Dr.Richard Farmer's copy with his contemporary manuscript notes to endpapers including an additional fable entitled 'Fable of the Oak and the Birch-tree', some light offsetting, near contemporary calf, gilt, spine gilt, red morocco label, rubbed, spine ends worn, split to upper joint, 1761; another edition, second Baskerville edition, engraved frontispiece, vignettes and 15 plates, some spotting and light marginal water-staining, ink inscription "J.Edward Turner Dryden 28th March 1792" to front free endpaper, contemporary speckled calf, spine ruled in gilt with green roan label, a little rubbed and faded, small worn patch to upper cover, 1764, preserved in modern cloth folder & slip-case or drop-back box, [Gaskell 14 & 27], 8vo, Birmingham, by John Baskerville, for R. & J.Dodsley (2)

⁂ Dr Richard Farmer (1735-97), Shakespearean scholar, Master of Emmanuel College, Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University 1775-56 & 1787-88 and Principal Librarian 1778 onwards. His library was sold in London in 1798, including 12 Caxtons and a volume of poetical pieces printed by Wynkyn de Worde. 8155 books realised £2210.
