Ovidius Naso (Publius) Metamorphoseon libri XV, collation: a⁶A-V⁸, with final blank, italic & roman type, title with woodcut printer's device, woodcut illustrations within text and initials, contemporary ink inscriptions to title erased, a few ink stains (those on title and stain to a5 pasted over), ink scribbles and sketch to verso of final blank, modern half tan morocco over painted boards, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box, [Adams O502; EDIT 16 CNCE 31201], Venice, Nicolo Moretti, 1586; Metamorphoses...en Rondeaux [by Isaac Benserade], engraved frontispiece by le Clerc after Lebrun, title with woodcut royal arms, 226 engraved illustrations by le Clerc and François Chauveau, old ink monogram stamp to title, bookplate of G.H.Macnamara and book-label of F.R.Furber, modern half blue morocco over painted boards, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box, Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1676, folio & 4to (2)

⁂ The first is a handsome edition typographically with the text and illustrations framed by the commentary. The second is the first printing of this superbly illustrated edition which contains some of the finest work of François Chauveau and Sebastien le Clerc.
