Zola & Vizetelly.- Besant (Sir Walter, writer and campaigner for authors' rights, 1836–1901) Autograph Letter signed to Ernest Vizetelly, 6th September 1898, regarding an invitation to "a dinner party at the club to Mr Zola and yourself on any date to be named - as quickly as possible - by yourself. He can promise the presence of such literary men as we can get hold of for the occasion. There will be about 50 present", 2pp., a few ink smudges to head, small stain to p.1, folds, c. 205 x 130mm.
⁂ Ernest Vizetelly (1853-1922), journalist and translator of the works of Emile Zola during his exile from France. The "dinner party" Besant is referring to, is most likely at The Author's Club, which he founded a few years prior, which allowed writers to meet and talk.
