⁂ An attractive copy of the first emblem book with Italian text. Andrea Alciati is acknowledged as the creator of the first emblem book, which was published in Augsburg in 1531. Many later editions of his emblems were printed in Paris, Augsburg, Lyons, and the Low Countries.
