La Fontaine (Jean de) Fables Choisies, 2 vol., lacking half-titles, with engraved frontispiece and 275 plates after Oudry, with one plate 'Le Chat et le Renard' Fable CLXXXIII hand-coloured, woodcut tail-pieces, frontispiece and titles laid down, frontispiece and final leaf of vol.2 lacking outer corner, titles soiled, some foxing and browning, mostly to text, light water-staining at beginning of vol.1 (mostly marginal), a few marginal tears or defects, handsome contemporary calf with decorative borders tooled in gilt and blind, spines gilt in compartments, inner gilt dentelles, g.e., rubbed, a few minor scratches, preserved in modern cloth folders and slip-cases, [Cohen-de Ricci 553], folio, Paris, Valade...chez Belin, 1783.
⁂ A reissue of the celebrated edition of 1755-59, using the same plates by the famous animal painter Jean-Baptiste Oudry who was also artistic director of the tapestry manufacturer at Beauvais.
