Description

Levant.- Cobbold (Lady Evelyn) Pilgrimage to Mecca, first edition, half-title, frontispiece and plates, previous owner's ink inscription reading "Here is the book I promised you when flying from Sudan - June 1934" to front free endpaper, occasional very faint spotting, original cloth, slight bumping to corners and extremities, dust-jacket, small tear at joint, chipping and small loss to corners and spine extremities, slight creasing to edges, a little rubbed, 8vo, 1934.

⁂ Lady Evelyn Cobbold (1867-1963) converted to Islam in 1915 after a journey through the Libyan desert. In 1933 at the age of 65 she became the first Muslim woman born in the UK to perform the pilgrimage to Mecca.
