⁂ Edward Kenealy (1819-80), barrister and writer; famous for his intemperate language as leading counsel for the Tichborne Claimant. In the course of his defence, he employed groundless accusations against both the Catholic Church and the witnesses. After he lost the case he started a scurrilous paper called The Englishman, which attained a large circulation, to plead the cause of the claimant. When the trial was over Kenealy was largely ostracised by the legal profession.
