Description

Ward (Lynd) Madman's Drum: A Novel in Woodcuts, first trade edition, illustrations throughout by the author, ink inscription to front pastedown, small tear to upper margin of title, a few finger soils, light browning, original cloth-backed boards, bumping to spine ends and corners, light browning and foxing, some surface marks, a little rubbed to extremities, 8vo, 1930.

⁂ When creating Madman's Drum, Ward used a variety of carving tools to achieve a level of detail for exaggerated emotional facial expressions. Lynd Ward wordless novels had a strong influence on the development of the graphic novel.
