Description

Birds.- Bannerman (David Armitage) The Birds of the British Isles, 12 vol., first edition, prolific colour plates throughout (over 350) by George E. Lodge, all plates with captioned paper guards, original cloth, spines gilt, ends a little bumped, dust-jackets, toning to spines and some to folds, dust-soiling (mainly to lower panels) and a couple of stains, nicks to extremities and a few larger chips (vol. 3 & 11), 4to, Edinburgh and London, Oliver and Boyd, 1953-63.

⁂ A full first edition set of Bannerman's monumental account of British birds, published following his career of over four decades as Curator of the British Museum of Natural History (1919-52).
