India.- Calcutta.- Laurie & Whittle (publishers) New harbour in Bengal commenced 1770...Navigation through the Eastern Channel, and Channel Creek with the boat track of Captain Cumberlege..., seat chart of the entrance to Calcutta harbour, with soundings, delineation of the banks, and showing the tracks taken various ships, engraving, an inset map with outline hand-colouring, platemark 660 x 455 mm (26 x 17 7/8 in), sheet 740 x 560 mm (29 1/8 x 22 in), contemporary ink inscription in the upper margin that reads 'General Sir David Baird [?] of the Bath/ with Mr [?]Lucairns best respects', carefully mounted on linen support, old binding stitch mark holes along the extreme right edge, old folds, some spotting and minor surface dirt, minor nicks, unframed, 1808
⁂ Originally published as part of a pamphlet with Parliamentary reports relating to Benjamin Lacam's campaign for compensation from the East India Company for his work investigating a safe route from the Bay of Bengal to Calcutta. Scarce at auction.
