Description

Beardsley (Aubrey) Lysistrata, one of 100 numbered copies, 8 loose plates, ?one a Beardsley forgery, original yellow paper portfolio, portfolio chipped and frayed at edges, lacking backstrip, covers and flaps detached, each plate 305 x 250mm., [Germany], Privatdruck, 1905.

⁂ Rare early edition of plates from Beardsley's fin-de-siècle erotic masterpiece, first published in 1896 in an edition of only 100 copies. We cannot trace another copy of this particular portfolio at auction. The plate 'Lysistrata defending the Acropolis' is not present, replaced by what is seemingly a Beardsley forgery.
