Damascenus (Johannes) Opera omnia, edited by Michel le Quien, 2 vol., parallel Greek and Latin text, half-title, both titles with woodcut floral ornament, fine engraved vignettes, short marginal tear to half-title, ink stamp of Carlow College Library to titles, some spotting, lightly browned, contemporary mottled calf, richly gilt spine in compartments and with double morocco labels, foot of spines worn, rubbed and marked, [Ebert 10790, 'Beste Ausgabe'], folio, Paris, Jean-Baptiste Delespine, 1712.

⁂ The polymath John of Damascus (c.675/6-749) was an Arab Christian monk, priest, hymnographer, and Christian apologist. A Doctor of the Church he is best known for his defence of icons.
