Description

Egypt.- Davis (Theodore M.) Theodore M. Davis' Excavations, 5 vol. only, first editions, titles in red and black, occasional light surface marks, ex-library copies with bookplates, ink- and embossed stamps throughout, including to titles and plates, original green cloth with library numbering to foot of spines, some browning to spines and covers, spine and upper covers lettered in gilt, slight browning to covers, a little rubbed, t.e.g., Archibald Constable & Co., 1906-1910; and another work, unrelated, folio & 4to, (6).

⁂ Theodore M. Davis's sponsorship for the excavations carried out in Egypt led to the discovery of many ancient Egyptian antiquities and artifacts, most of which are on display in museums in New York and Egypt. Involved in Davis's excavations were Howard Carter, Gaston Maspero, and Edward Ayrton. Titles in this collection are: Tomb of Hatshopsitu, Tomb of Iouiya and Touiyou, The Funeral of Papyrus of Iouiya, Tombs of Siphtah, and Tomb of Queen Tiyi.
