Annotated.- Tauler (Johannes) Predig fast fruchtbar zu eim recht Christlichen leben, double column, title within fine woodcut border depicting Saints Peter and Paul, and the Church Fathers Gregory, Augustine, Ambrose and Jerome, woodcut historiated and decorative initials, extensive early ink notes to final blank verso and pastedowns, some early ink marginalia, occasionally extensive, lacking a6, title with a short tear at head, little creased and mounted on stub, a2 creased at head, a2&3 inner gutter repaired, affecting marginalia on a3 (including a small piece missing from upper margin), a few short marginal tears (see in particular V1-3), small wormholes, mostly at ends, some spotting or staining, lightly browned, contemporary blind-stamped panelled pigskin over wooden boards, spine in compartments (painted grey and red), lacking metal clasps, crude repair to lower cover, wormholes, some staining, rubbed and marked, [VD 16 J 785], folio, Basel, [Adam Petri for Johann Rynmann], 1522.
⁂ Second edition of Tauler's sermons, first published the year before. Tauler (c.1300-1361) was an important German Dominican mystic, Catholic priest and theologian. He was a disciple of Meister [Johannes] Eckhart.
