Description

Melville (Herman) Typee: a Peep at Polynesian Life During a Four Months' Residence in a Valley of the Marquesas, 2 vol. in 1, first American edition, map frontispiece, some light toning or faint spotting to margins, otherwise quite clean, original late blue cloth, BAL state A with peach endpapers, cloth a little discoloured, joints and spine ends lightly frayed, still overall a very good copy, 8vo, New York, Wiley and Putnam, 1846.

⁂ A curiously imperfectly manufactured copy of the first American edition of Melville's work, published a month after the English edition. This copy's collation of early leaves is jumbled, and lacking some text (though no leaves).
