Description

Emblemata.- Ayres (Philip) Emblems of Love. In Four Languages, engraved pictorial title by S. Nicholls, and 44 engraved whole page illustrations of emblems, each with accompany text leaf, title and following leaf a little shorter, browned and with a few tiny silked repairs at edges thus possibly from another copy (?possibly later), the following few ff. also with tiny ?silked repairs at lower fore-edge corner, some minor soiling, handsome modern red morocco by Lewis and Harris of Bath, richly gilt covers, spine, edges and dentelles, g.e., [c.f. Wing A4307 & A4309 (title)], [R Bently], [1683].

⁂ Title bears 'S. Nicholls Sculp' and imprint of John Wren, thus possibly from the 1750 edition.
