Each volume with a presntation inscription from the author to his wife (eg vol.1 "From the Author of the Book to its Inspirer" and in vol.7 "Finis Coronat Opus, with best love") and each inscription dated to the year of publication. First 3 volumes with a few errata noted on rear endpaper in Oman's hand; loosley inserted bifolium with a transcription of Norman Macleod's poem The Old Soldier in Oman's hand and 2 loosely inserted maps (one manuscript), plus relevant topographical postcards.
