⁂ Allan Ramsay (1686-1758), poet, playwright, publisher, librarian and impresario of early Enlightenment Edinburgh. He was a pastoral writer, who revived interest in Scots vernacular literature. The present work is set in Carlops and the nearby Newhall Estate in the Scottish Borders.
Provenance: 'Hugh ?Beverley. Bought Lord Kilwarden's sale, after his murder by the rebels in Dublin' (pencil inscription to front free endpaper, and his marginalia).
