Execution witnessed by Pepys.- Turner (James) The Speech and deportment of Col. Iames Turner at his execution in Leaden-Hall-street, January 21. 1663. Who was condemned for felony and burglary, in breaking up the house and robbing of Mr. Francis Tryon merchant, first edition, engraved frontispiece (not called for), trimmed at head, just touching first word of title and affecting a few page numbers, foxed and stained, frontispiece with small abrasion at foot, trimmed to border and laid down, 19th century red half roan, spine gilt, corners worn, some soiling, rubbed, [Wing T3293], small 4to, Printed by William Godbid for Nath. Brook at the Angel in Cornhill, and Henry Marsh at the Princes Arms in Chancery-lane, 1663.
⁂ One of two printings of the first edition (the other with 14pp.) of this account of Turner's execution, which was witnessed by Samuel Pepys, who stood 'upon the wheel of a cart, in great pain, above an hour before the execution was done'. James Turner was Lieutenant-Colonel of the city militia during the Civil War.
