A World War I veteran, Paul Nash was the elder brother of John Nash. As a surrealist painter and war artist, Nash was among the important landscape artists of the first half of the 20th century, playing a key role in the development of English Modernism. His most notable book illustrations are for Places(1922), the Nonesuch Press Genesis(1924) and his pochoir designs for Sir Thomas Browne’s Urne Buriall and the Garden of Cyrusprinted by the Curwen Press in 1932.
