Pissarro was a landscape painter, printmaker, wood-engraver and designer and printer of fine books. He was the eldest son of the famed Impressionist Camille Pissarro. He first lived in England during the Franco-Prussian war in the early 1870s and travelled there again a decade later to learn English and work at a publishing house. Within the world of books he is renowned for his work for the Eragny Press (1894-1914) which he founded with his wife Esther and which was named after the village in Normandy where his father had settled.
