Description
Sade (Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de, revolutionary politician, philsopher, writer & libertine, 1740-1814) Autograph Letter signed to Madame Gaufridy, wife of his legal advisor, 1p. of a bifolium, text in French, signed 'de Sade', n.p., 195 x 155mm., 14th August 1778, requesting various sartorial and domestic items, including yellow taffeta like the sample affixed to the letter, his completed suit from his tailor, the services of a shoemaker, a cane, larding needles and screws, 1 line of list not in his hand, address and remains of red wax seal to final verso, folds, a few spots, lightly browned.
⁂ During the time de Sade was in prison, an asylum, or in exile (a total period of over three decades) his long-time legal advisor Gaspard Francois Xavier Gaufridy was responsible for his estates and finances.
