The 1948 Monaco Grand Prix was the first time that Grand Prix racing had returned to the Principality Monaco since WW2. It was won by the Italian Giuseppe Farina in his privately owned Maserati 4CLT in a race time of 3 Hours 18 minutes and 29.9 seconds. Farina would go on to become the first Formula 1 World Champion in 1950, driving for the Alpha Romeo works team, he tragically died in a car accident, en-route to the to watch the 1966 French Grand Prix.
