A time of political instability, but also financial instability. The crown was heavily in debt, largely due to Henry VIII, a tyrant who not only destroyed England's cultural and religious heritage, but by debasing the coinage, the country's finances as well. Northumberland was driven by expediency to address some of these financial problems.
