Richter, Joseph Wolf and William Hart, bookplate of Russell James Colman, vol. 4 title with 20mm tear to lower margin, an exceptionally clean copy overall with very occasional finger marking, contemporary dark blue morocco, gilt, the occasional minor scratch, very slight rubbing to corners, [Ayer & Zimmer p.261; Fine Bird Books, p.78; Wood p.365; Nissen 372], folio, [1862-]1873.

An exceptionally clean and handsomely bound copy of what is known as "the most sumptuous and costly of British bird books" (Mullens and Swann). Richard Bowdler Sharpe said of the work: "Such beautiful illustrations...scarcely existed before and are not likely to be surpassed".
