Dickens (Charles) Sketches by Boz Illustrative of Every-day Life, and Every-day People, New Edition, Complete, first one volume edition, first issue with "reeledbefore" on p.526 and all plates before "Greenwich Fair" (at p.120) without the Chapman and Hall imprint, half-title, frontispiece, pictorial title and 38 etched plates by George Cruikshank, advertisement leaf dated May 15 1839, repaired tear to frontispiece (affecting image but without loss), a few plates with marginal browning, occasional spotting, original blind-stamped brown cloth, recased, a few small chips or tears along joints and spine ends, corners a little rubbed, [Eckel pp.14-15; Smith p.16 n.4], 8vo, Chapman and Hall, 1839.

⁂ "When Chapman and Hall obtained the copyright of Sketches in 1837, they published all of them in twenty monthly parts from November 1837 through June 1839... In May, 1839, Chapman and Hall published these parts complete in one volume with all 40 of Cruikshank's illustrations."
