Darwin (Charles, naturalist, geologist, and originator of the theory of natural selection, 1809-82).- Darwin (Leonard, politician and economist, son of Charles Darwin, 1850-1943) Portrait photograph of Charles Darwin by Leonard Darwin, small crease in left hand corner, 115 x 91mm., [1878]; and another portrait photograph of Darwin by Lock and Whitfield, 114 x 92mm., [1877], both laid down on card (2).

The photograph was made as a keepsake for both Darwin and Leonard as he was soon to go on a voyage to New Zealand on an unsuccessful attempt to photograph the Transit of Venus.
