The Rashleigh family were wealthy merchants dating back to the sixteenth century who became prominent and influential landowners in Cornwall. Their family seat, Menabilly, near Fowey, was let to the writer Daphne du Maurier from 1943 to 1969. She restored the house and used it as a model for Manderley in her novel Rebecca.
