Dickens (Charles, novelist, 1812-70) Autograph cheque signed "Charles Dickens" paid to "W Seagrove" for the sum of Fifty three pounds, three shillings, drawn on Messrs Coutts & Co, receipt stamp of National Provincial Bank, 1 page, printed with manuscript insertions and crossed, folds, London, 14th January 1867.

⁂ A payment made out to Seagrove's, Royal naval and military outfitters in Portsea, probably for Dickens seventh son, Sydney Dickens (1847-72), who joined the Navy in 1860.
