Hobbes (Thomas) Leviathan, second edition, additional engraved allegorical title, printed title with woodcut device of bear and foliage, lacking folding table, upper corner tips almost throughout repaired, some light foxing and browning, occasional water-staining, modern calf with red morocco spine label, folio, Printed for Andrew Ckooke, 1651 [i.e. John Redmayne and Christoffel Cunradus], 1678].

⁂ Second and pirated edition of Hobbes's political masterpiece, which had been banned in England by the censors. This later printing can be identified by the fainter impression of the engraved title-page.
